# Edit with AI chat

Ask the chat to change text, styles, images and structure. Each message costs 6, 12 or 30 credits depending on what you ask, and one turn is one undo step.

## Before you start

Each message spends credits from the same pool as generations and Studio. Check your balance in the account menu or on your billing page. See [How credits work](https://www.uova.com/help/billing/credits).

## Open the chat

- Click **UOVA AI** in the icon rail.
- Press `Cmd+J` or `Cmd+Shift+A`.
- `Cmd+Shift+K` opens **Ask UOVA**, a quick-prompt window with a single box reading `Ask UOVA — edit anything`. It uses the same chat route with a tighter budget of two tool actions per message. `Enter` sends and `Esc` closes.

Select an element before you send a message to scope the request to it. The box then reads "Ask UOVA about the <type>…". You can also press **Select** in the chat and click an element on the canvas, and `Esc` cancels that.

## The chat window

| Control | What it does |

| Message box | Reads "Ask UOVA to edit, design, or build anything…". With an image attached it reads "Add instructions for this image…" |
| Attach image | Adds one reference image to the message. It makes the turn an escalated one |
| Auto | The model pill. Its tooltip reads "Model: picked for each message (Haiku, Sonnet or Opus)". You do not choose the model |
| Select | Arms a crosshair so the next click on the canvas becomes the context |
| Build and Plan | Build makes changes directly to the canvas. Plan reads "Explore changes before applying them. Coming soon." and is locked |
| Send and Stop | Stop ends a reply in progress. The reply then says "Stopped there." |
| Clear chat history | Empties the conversation |

Under each reply a small line shows what it cost and which model answered, such as "12 credits · Sonnet". The chat may also offer follow-up suggestions.

## What it can do

One chat turn is a single undo step. `Cmd+Z` reverses everything the turn changed. Style changes from the chat apply to the Desktop styles. To change a value on Tablet or Mobile only, use the Design tab.

## What a message costs

| Kind of message | Credits | Model |

| Trivial: a question or a short greeting, with nothing selected | 6 | Haiku |
| Default: an edit, or any message sent with an element selected | 12 | Sonnet |
| Escalated: a message that starts with /plan, or one with an image attached | 30 | Opus |

UOVA decides the kind from your message. A message that opens with a question such as "how do I", "what" or "why", or that ends in a question mark and has no action word, is a question. A short message with no action word is a greeting. Selecting an element, or using an action word such as change, add or make, turns a message into an edit. Asking a question with an element selected is charged as an edit, 12 credits. These are the figures as of 2026-10-10. ## Refunds and retries

- Credits are refunded when the reply produces no output or every model fails.
- A failed turn shows a card with a **Try to fix** button marked Free. It re-sends the failed request without charging, up to 3 times an hour. A request that is not eligible is charged normally. After two tries the card stops offering it and suggests rephrasing.
- When you run out, the chat says `You're out of credits for this month — upgrade and I'll pick right back up where we left off.`

> **Note:** A message that starts with `/plan` is charged as an escalated message, 30 credits, and so is a message with an image attached. An ordinary edit costs 12.

## Limits

- Injected HTML is sanitised. Scripts, iframes and embeds are removed. See [Custom CSS, HTML blocks and head code](https://www.uova.com/help/build/editor/custom-code).
- The chat's actions run in your browser against the page you have open.
- The Plan mode switch is locked. Typing /plan at the start of a message is the way to request the escalated model.

## Common questions

**Is every chat message 10 credits?**

No. A message costs 6, 12 or 30 credits depending on the kind of request.

**Does a question cost the same as an edit?**

Not when nothing is selected: a question costs 6 and an edit 12. With an element selected, a question costs 12.

**Can I undo what the chat did?**

Yes. A whole turn is one undo step.

**Does attaching an image change the price?**

Yes. A message with an image attached costs 30 credits.

**Can I pick the model?**

No. The pill reads Auto, and UOVA picks Haiku, Sonnet or Opus for each message.
