# Keyboard shortcuts

Every editor shortcut in one table, with the Windows equivalents and the situations where a shortcut will not fire, such as typing in a text field.

On Windows read **Cmd** as **Ctrl**. Open the command palette with `Cmd+K`, which also has a **Show keyboard shortcuts** command that lists the main ones in a message box.

| `Cmd+Z` | Undo. The selection is cleared |
| `Cmd+Shift+Z` or `Cmd+Y` | Redo. The selection is cleared |
| `Cmd+D` | Duplicate the selection. On a repeating card it adds a card |
| Delete or Backspace | Delete the selection without asking. It hides a template section, and removes a repeating card |
| `Cmd+Up` or `Cmd+Down` | Reorder a selected repeating card |
| `Esc` | Leave clean preview, then stop text editing, then close the palette, then close the right panel, then deselect. With nothing left to dismiss it enters clean preview |
| Arrow keys | Nudge the selection 1 pixel, written as a CSS transform at the size you are previewing |
| Shift+Arrow keys | Nudge the selection 10 pixels |
| Tab or Shift+Tab | Select the next or previous sibling, wrapping at the ends |
| `Cmd+K` | Open the command palette |
| `Cmd+P` | Enter or leave clean preview. A device preview from the Preview menu is left instead |
| `Cmd+J` | Open the AI chat |
| `Cmd+Shift+A` | Open the AI chat |
| `Cmd+Shift+K` | Open or close the Ask UOVA quick-prompt window, whatever has focus |
| `Cmd+Shift+V` | Open the Edit (inspector) flyout in the left panel |
| `Cmd+1`, `Cmd+2`, `Cmd+3` | Switch to Desktop, Tablet or Mobile |
| `Cmd+Shift+I` | Toggle the Advanced inspector section |
| `Cmd+\` | Close the open left panel, or open the AI chat if none is open |

| `Cmd+S` | Shows a Saved message and adds an undo step. It is not a save, because autosave does that. |

Clean preview is the full-width view without editor chrome, the same as **Preview in Editor** in the Preview menu.

## When shortcuts do not fire

- Shortcuts do not fire while your cursor is in a text field, a menu list, a text area or an element you are editing in place. The exceptions are `Cmd+K`, `Cmd+P` and `Cmd+Shift+K`.
- The canvas is an embedded frame. If a shortcut such as `Cmd+Z` or Delete does nothing while you are working inside the canvas, click an empty area of the editor outside the frame and try again. Shortcuts are certain to work with focus in the editor page itself.

## What is not a shortcut

- There is no Cmd+scroll zoom and no Space+drag pan. Zoom with the **-** and **+** buttons in the top bar, by pinching on a touch screen, or with the palette's zoom commands.
- `Cmd+S` does not save. Autosave runs on its own. See [Undo, autosave and version history](https://www.uova.com/help/build/editor/undo-autosave-history).
- `Cmd+,` opens the settings menu. To open the Project settings window, choose **All project settings** in it.

## The command palette

`Cmd+K` lists 33 commands, plus a **Go to page: <name>** entry for each of your pages and a **Select: <name>** entry for each named element on the open page. Type to filter.

## Common questions

**Why does Cmd+Z do nothing?**

Either your cursor is in a text field, or focus is inside the canvas frame. Click outside the canvas and try again.

**How many undo steps are there?**

The history keeps the latest 15 snapshots, and one AI chat turn counts as one step. See [Undo, autosave and version history](https://www.uova.com/help/build/editor/undo-autosave-history).

**Why did my arrow keys move an element?**

With an element selected, the arrow keys nudge it by 1 pixel, or 10 with Shift. Press `Cmd+Z` to undo the nudge.
