In 2026 every website builder has an AI button. Type a sentence, get a site. The question is no longer whether a tool can generate a website. It is whether the website it generates is one you would put your name on.
A note before we start: we make UOVA, and it is on this list. Read our pick with that in mind. We have tried to be fair to everyone else. Every price below was checked on the vendor's own pricing page on September 25, 2026, and every limitation is one the vendor states itself.
How we judged
- Design first: does the AI's first draft look designed, or assembled?
- Control: once the draft exists, how far can you take it?
- Price: the cheapest plan that puts the site on your own domain.
- Fit: who the tool is genuinely built for.
1. UOVA: best for a site that looks commissioned
UOVA starts from a sentence about your business and returns a site built from a supported designer template: copy, imagery, navigation and sections, already composed. The gallery has 60+ design previews to explore; the generator selects from its supported set. A built-in creative studio adds image and video models for heroes, product shots and film.
- Free plan: yes, with 250 credits a month and unlimited sites on a UOVA address.
- Own domain from: $12 a month billed annually ($19 billed monthly).
- Watch out for: UOVA is new in 2026, so there is no body of independent reviews yet. It builds websites, not web apps.
2. Wix: best all-rounder
Wix has the widest toolset on this list. Its AI Website Builder, part of Wix Harmony with the Aria agent, promises to go from a prompt to a business-ready website with pages, copy, visuals and business tools. More than 2,000 templates sit behind it, along with an enormous app market.
- Free plan: yes, on a wixsite.com address with Wix branding.
- Own domain from: about $17 a month billed yearly (the Light plan).
- Watch out for: Light includes no online payments. Selling starts on Core, around $29 a month.
3. Framer: best for designers
Framer is a design tool first and a website builder second, and that is its strength. Wireframer turns a prompt into editable, responsive page layouts on Framer's canvas, and from there you have near-total control over type, layout and motion. Its template marketplace mixes free designs with paid ones, which we saw priced from $49 to $149.
- Free plan: yes, on a Framer subdomain, intended for non-commercial use.
- Own domain from: $10 a month billed yearly (the Basic plan).
- Watch out for: the AI gives you a layout, not a finished site. You still do the designing, which is the point if you are a designer and a lot of work if you are not.
4. Squarespace: best for polished small-business sites that sell
Squarespace's Blueprint AI asks about your business and turns the answers into a personalised website built from its famously clean templates. Commerce is included on every plan, with unlimited products.
- Free plan: no. There is a 14-day trial with no card required.
- Own domain from: the Basic plan, shown to us at CA$21 a month billed annually when we checked from Canada. Prices vary by region.
- Watch out for: Basic takes a 2% transaction fee on sales. Higher plans remove it.
5. Webflow: best for teams that need a real CMS
Webflow gives designers and marketing teams professional control over layout, content collections and interactions, with an AI site builder layered on top. Its template marketplace includes paid designs, which we saw priced from $29 to $129.
- Free plan: yes (Starter), limited to two static pages on a webflow.io address.
- Own domain from: $15 a month billed yearly, or $25 billed monthly (the Basic plan).
- Watch out for: e-commerce is a separate set of plans, from $29 a month billed yearly with a 2% fee on Standard. There is a real learning curve.
6. Hostinger AI Website Builder: best on price
Hostinger bundles an AI builder, including an agent-style mode, with hosting, and it is the cheapest way onto your own domain on this list, provided you commit for years.
- Free plan: no.
- Own domain from: $2.99 a month, but only on a 48-month term ($143.52 paid upfront), renewing at $10.99 a month. A domain is included free for the first year on terms of 12 months or more.
- Watch out for: the headline price is a four-year commitment.
7. Durable: fastest to a basic site
Durable promises to get a small business online in 30 seconds, and it is built around the jobs a local business actually has: paid plans add AI agents that draft blog posts, reply to leads and handle reviews.
- Free plan: yes, a private preview on a durable.site address, without a custom domain.
- Own domain from: the Launch plan at $25 a month, with a discount for paying yearly.
- Watch out for: Durable's own FAQ says it is not designed for e-commerce businesses.
8. Lovable and Base44: when you need an app, not a website
These two turn up on a lot of AI builder lists, but they solve a different problem. Both are chat-to-code tools: describe a product and they generate a working web application. If you need a booking system, a dashboard or a SaaS prototype, start here. If you need the website that sells your business, the tools above are better suited.
- Lovable: free plan with 5 credits a day (up to 30 a month); Pro is $25 a month.
- Base44: free plan with 25 message credits a month; Starter is $16 a month billed annually.
What the big lists say
Independent roundups mostly agree at the top. Tech.co's guide, updated July 14, 2026, ranks Wix, Squarespace and Hostinger first, second and third. Zapier's, updated in August 2026, picks Wix, Framer and 10Web. Wix leads both, which reflects its breadth. Our list weighs the design of the AI's first draft more heavily than either, which is why our order differs.
Every builder can generate a website now. The difference is whether you would send it to a client.
The short verdict
- You want the biggest toolset and app market: Wix.
- You design for a living and want total control: Framer, or Webflow for a team with a CMS.
- You sell products and want it simple: Squarespace.
- You want the lowest price and can commit for four years: Hostinger.
- You want a site that looks commissioned, today, from one sentence: UOVA.
