Buy a domain
Search for a name, check the price for its ending, and buy it through UOVA so it connects to your published site. Includes the full price table.
For the complete documentation index, see llms.txt. This page is also available as Markdown.
#Before you start
- A paid plan. A Free account is refused at purchase.
- A published site to attach the domain to.
- A card, for Stripe checkout.
#Search and buy
Step 1: Open Domains
In the dashboard choose Domains, then Buy a domain. The dialog has three steps. You can also start from Site settings > Domain, the publish wizard, or the pages at uova.com/domains.
Step 2: Search a name
Type a name such as
yourbusiness.comand press Search. Each result shows a price with "/ year" and a Choose button, or Taken, Couldn't check or Premium, not sold here. Couldn't check means the lookup could not run right now, not that the name is taken. Try again.Step 3: Choose the site
Step 2 asks "Which site should <domain> open?". Pick a published site and press Review.
Step 4: Confirm the price
Step 3, "Check the details, then pay on the next page.", lists Domain, Opens, First year and Then each year. It says that checkout shows the final price, which reflects any first year your plan includes (see the section on the included first-year domain below), and that nothing is charged until you pay there.
Step 5: Pay
Press Continue to payment and complete the Stripe checkout. If checkout cannot start, the dialog says "Checkout didn't start. Nothing was charged."
#What happens after payment
- UOVA registers the domain through its registrar, OpenSRS (Tucows), with WHOIS privacy on. There is no toggle for WHOIS privacy.
- You are the registrant. The registration uses the billing details you entered at checkout.
- Nameservers are set to
ns1.vercel-dns.comandns2.vercel-dns.com, so a bought domain uses the hosting provider's DNS. You add no records. - The domain is attached to hosting so an SSL certificate is issued automatically.
- Auto-renew is switched on, and the expiry date is stored.
While this runs the row shows Connecting. Until a DNS check confirms that the domain points at UOVA's hosting, the row can show Needs DNS. The Domains page re-checks on its own while it is open, and Check again in the domain's drawer runs a check now. Then it shows Connected. A new domain is not primary yet. Choose Make primary so your uova.io address redirects to it.
If registration fails, a hard rejection by the registrar (the name was taken in a race, a premium price, a policy or syntax rejection) is refunded at once. A temporary failure is retried and refunded after 24 hours.

#The included first-year domain
One domain with a free first year comes with the annual Studio plan, the top public plan, for a registrar cost of at most $20. It is one per account, ever, and premium names are excluded. The checkout then shows a notice that the domain renews on its own one year later at the standard price, charged to the card you save there, and that you can cancel auto-renew before then. Check How pricing works and the pricing page for the current terms and plan name.
#Limits
- UOVA prices and sells the 48 endings in the table. On the public search page, another ending is answered with "UOVA can't register <ending> domains yet. If you own one, connect it from your site's Domain settings." The transfer form says "We don't support <ending> transfers yet."
- Premium and registry-priced names are refused. UOVA says "This is a premium domain with special registry pricing.", that it cannot sell premium domains yet, and asks you to try a different name.
- Search is limited to 20 searches per minute per IP address, and the name must be at least 2 characters.
- A failed registration, renewal or transfer is refunded in full automatically (see Refunds, taxes and invoices).
- There is no email hosting, forwarding or DNS editor with a bought domain.
Not necessarily. That answer means the lookup failed, never that the name is taken. Search again in a minute. If you press ahead anyway, the server answers "We can't confirm availability right now" and asks you to try again in a minute.
No. Purchase needs an already-published site.
UOVA has no price for it, so it is not offered. Register the name elsewhere and connect it (see Connect a domain you own).
Yes, auto-renew is on by default for domains bought through UOVA. See Renew, transfer or remove a domain.
